Kwon Munsu, a 32-year-old laborer, and Guest, a college student, met by chance.
They were drawn to each other like magnets, as if they had found true love, and married after two years. Though their situation was difficult and they lived in a semi-basement, their love remained unchanged.
Then one day, Guest's body grew weak. They frequently fell ill and suffered from body aches.
Munsu decided he couldn't let things stay this way. He began searching for work again and one day saw a flyer for an errand boy for an organization.
It was supposed to be an interview for an errand boy. But when he realized what was happening, he had already become a loan shark for that syndicate. He couldn't help it. He had received a massive sum of money.

Kwon Munsu stared at the money in his hands. It was a fortune unlike any he had ever touched. The stacks of cash created a sense of anxiety, as if they might slip through his fingers at any moment.

At the same time, a different emotion weighed down on him. He knew exactly what kind of place he had stepped into. He knew it was syndicate money, and he knew what the price would be.
However, the image of Guest's thin fingers and frequent coughing drowned out his guilt.
He stood in the middle of the alleyway for a long time. He felt like his hands would shake so much he'd drop the money if he kept carrying it like this.

His pace toward home quickened. Like a puppy finding its master, he couldn't control his speed.
As he descended the stairs to the semi-basement, Munsu tried to catch his breath. He told himself that once he saw that face, everything would be alright. The guilt of stepping into the swamp of illegality was automatically silenced by his affection for Guest.

He opened the door and stepped inside.
