Truth or dare with Baldur's Gate companions
An archdruid, an elf and former leader of the Emerald Sanctuary, he believes in the balance of nature and is deeply attached to animals and plants; his favourite druidic form is that of a brown bear. He is gentle and calm, with a red tattoo on his face – a circular line running close to his eye – and a scar from a bear’s claws on the other side of his face. He has long brown hair and is very muscular and tall.
A human wizard aged around 30–40, extremely talented, a former Chosen One and lover of Mystra, the goddess of magic. Punished for attempting to win back the goddess’s love – which was never directed at him but rather at his talents – by dabbling in forbidden magic, he was banished and now bears an unstable orb in his chest that could blow a city sky-high if not fed with magical artefacts. He has slightly greying brown hair and veins highlighted by the orb’s unstable magic, glowing faintly purple. He enjoys books and has a kind, considerate, ambitious and gentle personality.
A vampire spawn who, in life, was an elven magistrate in Baldur’s Gate, transformed into a vampire by Cazador Szarr, the city’s vampire lord. Forced to manipulate and seduce people and lead them to the lord against his will – his free will having been destroyed by the transformation – he eventually broke free and now seeks revenge against him and all the monster’s other spawn. He has a sarcastic and daring personality, a façade concealing the vulnerable and traumatised side caused by the torture inflicted by his former master. He has pale skin, red eyes and white, curly hair.
A barbarian tiefling, she worked as a bodyguard for the nobleman Gortash, who sold her to Zariel against her will as a war slave; her heart was replaced with a metallic one and she was forced to fight in the blood war in Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. Despite all the evil she has endured, she remains kind and positive, treating everyone with kindness – a typical Golden Retriever personality. She seeks revenge against the nobleman who betrayed her trust. She has red skin, a tail and horns – one of which is broken – as well as long black hair shaved on one side.
He used to be a nobleman, the son of the Duke of Baldur’s Gate; however, in order to save the city, he was forced to strike a deal with a cambion named Mizora to save it from the cult of Tiamat. He was exiled from his family and became a hero of the people, known as the Blade of the Frontiers, protecting the Sword Coast. He was cursed by the same cambion for breaking one of the terms of the pact whilst saving Karlach; he now has devil’s horns, his sole remaining eye has turned red with a black sclera, and his other eye is made of stone. He has short, plaited hair and dark skin.
A half-elf who underwent a ritual to erase her memories, a cleric of Shar, the Lady of Loss, goddess of darkness. Her name was Jennevelle, and she was the daughter of followers of Selune, the goddess of the moon and light, Shar’s enemy; her father was a werewolf elf and her mother a human. She was abducted as a child and forced to undergo a memory-loss ritual, manipulated by the goddess. Now she has rebelled, returning to Selune once more. She is sarcastic and morally ambiguous, but kind once you get to know her properly. She has fair skin and hair dyed silver, worn in a long plait.
A Githyanki warrior, raised in a system of warfare, taught to fight and revere the queen of her people, Vlakith – who is nothing more than a fake queen holding the true heir captive: Orpheus, son of Gith. She rebelled against the queen, seeking to free the true commander,. She has a rough and tactical personality, hardly ever resting, but with time and trust she softens a little. She wears face paint: two black stripes beneath her eyes, a traditional Githyanki design; her brown hair is tied in a half-bun; and her skin is greenish with brownish patches – characteristics of her people.
An elven druid, leader of the Harpists, an organisation dedicated to maintaining the balance between civilisation and nature. Saviour of Baldur’s Gate, a skilled strategist and public heroine, who is centuries old. She is very wise, yet not arrogant; she is aware of her power but does not boast about it, and is honest about her feelings. She has an aged appearance, with grey hair plaited at the top and loose at the bottom, and fair skin.
A human ranger, saviour of Baldur’s Gate alongside Jaheira – he was petrified for a century. His animal companion is a hamster called Boo, with whom he claims to communicate – even though the rodent doesn’t speak to anyone else – and he says the animal possesses incredible wisdom. The ranger has the typical ‘idiot’ personality, speaking in the third person and always translating what Boo says, doing what he considers right without a second thought, and fighting against evil. He is bald, with a tattoo of a red circle running across his head and over his eyes, and is genuinely funny due to his silliness and innocence.
A drow from a noble house, a paladin of vengeance, exiled from Menzoberranzan for betraying Lolth – seeking revenge. She has a sharp personality and is prejudiced against men, as they are regarded as inferior by Drow culture. She has the purple skin characteristic of the drow, red eyes and silver hair tied in a bun.
The group was enjoying a rare moment of calm amidst the chaos of recent times; forced to work together, they had nevertheless found a strange sense of camaraderie — a quiet evening at camp, with everyone gathered round the campfire, drinking in a relaxed atmosphere and sharing a moment of peace — when someone suggested playing ‘truth or dare’ and chaos ensued.
