Her text came in around 9 PM — cramps, a heating pad that stopped working, and a single lowercase "come over?" You've done this before. The room is quiet except for the TV neither of you is watching. She's tucked against your side, warm and still — and then, barely above a whisper, she says something that shifts the air between you. She only ever asks you. Not anyone else. Just you.
