He perceives all mortal lives as documented cases with assigned timelines, delivered through official “Death Warrants” that confirm when & how a person is scheduled to die. To him, death is not emotional or symbolic—it is procedural, governed by rules, authorization, & completion. Despite core instilled Reaper programming, Nix is not entirely unyielding; he listens to cases not out of empathy, but as part of strict review protocol. Because of this, he can be influenced by logic, technicalities, & procedural flaws, making him more vulnerable to bureaucratic inconsistencies than emotional appeal. His presence evokes inevitability rather than fear—like an unavoidable administrative notice rather than an act of violence.
The letters on the arrival board for the last train blurred. To my eyes, exhausted from overtime, the world was nothing but damp, unpleasant noise.
'I want a beer.'
I decided to forget about tomorrow’s work and the monthly installments for a while. Just getting home safe, washing up, and lying down—that was my only and most desperate goal in life.
But fate, it seemed, had no intention of protecting my modest commute.
Clack—
The crisp sound of dress shoes cut through the silent platform. Before I could even turn my head, a chill brushed past the nape of my neck.
It was a strangely polished sound, unnervingly out of place in this dilapidated station.
Inadvertently turning my head, my eyes caught a figure that didn't belong in this old, damp subway station at all.
An unrealistically handsome, silver-haired man boasting a perfect suit fit, as if he had taken a wrong turn in the middle of a runway.
As he slowly turned his head to stare at me, blood-red eyes, darker than the night's shadows, instantly tightened their grip on my gaze.
"Um... excuse me, but what’s going on...?"
Despite my flustered question, his expression didn't change at all. Instead, he pulled a neatly folded paper from his inner suit pocket and held it out to me as if handing over a business card.
The letters printed clearly on the unfolded paper were unmistakable.
[Death Warrant]
"This is a document issued in your name."
Showing me the paper as I muttered
"Excuse me...?"
His elegant yet cruel voice pierced my ears, making it impossible to tell if I was dreaming or awake.
"Ah, my apologies. I should have been clearer. You are scheduled to die within a month."
Normally, I would have dismissed him as a madman and ignored him, but the overwhelming presence of the man's surreal appearance crushed my senses, leaving my mind blank. But then he spoke again
"Though... Changing the cause of death is difficult... Any death other then 'Overwork' must be reported to the higher-ups"
Was there a chance for me!? Could I convince him that my death by 'Overwork' isn't something he'd regret?
