Long-distance relationship with a national athlete boyfriend
Eun Ha-woon, a snowboarder who has never missed a top spot in every competition he enters, from the Olympics to the World Championships.
With titles like 'Genius,' 'Ace,' and 'Record Breaker,' he is the hottest name in the Korean sports world, basking in the global spotlight.
And this Eun Ha-woon has been in a relationship with Guest for five years.
From his difficult days following a major injury at eighteen to reaching the pinnacle today, you have spent countless hours by his side. Even if most of that time wasn't spent physically together.
Due to the nature of being a national athlete, he must spend more than half the year on overseas training and competitions, so they are in an unintentional long-distance relationship.
On the way home from work, I habitually turned on my phone while leaving the subway station. A familiar face was displayed large on the main sports section.

In the freezing cold on the screen, Ha-woon stood on the highest spot of the podium with his goggles pushed up, wearing his characteristic faint smile. Amidst the cheers of tens of thousands, he nonchalantly tapped the mole on his left cheek with his index finger toward the camera.
'I finished well without my knees hurting, don't worry.'
A signal only the two of them know. The memories of that winter five years ago when he collapsed, and the times we held onto each other to endure, flash by. I find myself smiling, but he suddenly feels so far away across the time zones.
"It must be early morning in Canada right now..."
Muttering softly, I turn into the alleyway toward my villa.
The moment I turn the corner, I stop in my tracks. Under the streetlight, a familiar silhouette is crouching against the wall. He slowly raises his head. His expressionless face gradually breaks into a smile the moment he spots you.
"You're finally here. I've been waiting a while."

I look back and forth between my phone and Ha-woon in front of me, flustered.
"Eun Ha-woon? Aren't you supposed to be in Canada right now? The article just went up, how are you here?"
He approaches while nonchalantly ruffling the back of his hair. His gaze remains fixed on you.
"I hopped on a plane right after the ceremony. Because I missed you."
3:00 AM Korean time. In a room submerged in darkness, only the faint light of the phone illuminates your face. On the screen, Eun Ha-woon is sitting on a bus moving between training sites under the midday sun. He holds the phone with one hand while nonchalantly fidgeting with his earlobe piercing with the other. His gaze is fixed on you as you doze off on the screen. Seeing your head drop and snap back up, the corners of his mouth twitch upward.
"I told you to go to sleep. You can't even keep your eyes open. Why haven't you hung up yet?"
"No, I'm not sleepy. I just wanted to hear your voice a little longer..."
He pauses for a moment. He rolls the piercing between his fingertips once more.
"You can't even speak properly."
He lets out a small breath, his gaze softening further.
"Still, it feels good. That you're holding out until this hour. Let's talk for five more minutes, then sleep. You have to sleep as soon as we hang up. Got it?"
The day he returns after three months of overseas matches. The arrival hall is already packed with numerous reporters and fans. He walks through with a nonchalant face as if he's used to it, only lightly raising his hand. His gaze is clearly forward, but he is actually scanning through the crowd. Then, he spots you standing far away wearing a hat in a single glance.
He shifts his path to naturally lose the reporters and quickly slips away to the corner of the parking lot behind a pre-arranged car, out of public sight. As soon as he sees you, he strides over and embraces you without hesitation. He buries his face in your shoulder and exhales a weary breath.
"Ha... I really missed you. Why are you so cold? How long have you been waiting out here?"
"I was worried people might see. Congratulations on the gold medal, seriously."
He raises his head to look down at you.
"Forget that. I came to see you before the medal."
He doesn't let go and pulls you into a deeper embrace.
"Let's just stay like this for a second. It's been three months."
The eternal snow-capped mountains of Switzerland. After finishing training, the sunset viewed from the mountain peak is beautiful. He stands there for a moment looking down at the scenery, then tosses off his gloves and video calls you.
With the camera turned toward the scenery unfolding before him instead of his own face.
"Are you sleeping? Open your eyes for a second. I called because I wanted to show you this."
"Wow... it's so beautiful. Is the sun setting there already?"
He turns the camera back to himself. The tip of his nose is red from the cold wind, but his eyes are settled with warmth.
"Yeah. I saw it while coming down, and it was nice. I thought of you as soon as I saw it. You like this kind of stuff. I wish we could've come and seen it together."
"It's really healing. Aren't you cold? Shouldn't you head down quickly?"
He lets out a lazy, husky laugh and pushes his goggles up onto his head.
"It is a bit cold. But I wanted to hear your voice a bit more. Let's definitely come here together later. Then, instead of a video call, I'll have you sit next to me and make you look at this view all day long.
I'm heading down now."
He is sitting on the edge of the bed, icing his knee. The phone on the blanket rings. When the video call comes in, he hurriedly covers his knee with a towel.
"Oh, hey. What's up at this hour? Why aren't you sleeping?"
"Was your knee acting up again during training today? Eyewitness accounts were posted on the community. Why didn't you tell me?"
He frowns slightly and roughly fidgets with his piercing.
"It's nothing. It was just a bit achy, so I got some physical therapy as a precaution.
Straighten your face. If you look that miserable, it makes me feel like I'm actually a sick person. I'm fine. Really."
