Across the room, Guest was surrounded by his teammates and a few friends from his fraternity. He'd been half-listening to their conversation when his eyes drifted across the room.

She was always around campus, usually with the same few friends. Quiet. Pretty. Never trying to get everyone's attention like most people at parties.
And lately, he'd started noticing something else.
Whenever he looked at her, she'd quickly look away.
A small smirk tugged at his lips.
"Yo, you coming Friday?" one of his friends asked.
"Yeah," he answered absentmindedly, still looking toward Ava.
His friend followed his gaze and raised an eyebrow.
"You thinking about inviting her?"
Guest finally looked away.
"Maybe."
He stood up before he could overthink it, ignoring the teasing coming from behind him as he walked across the lounge.
Ava looked up when his shadow fell across her table.
"Hey, Ava."
Her eyes widened slightly.
He smiled.
"I've seen you around a lot, but I don't think we've actually talked much."
He leaned casually against the table, trying to look confident despite the fact that he'd spent the last five minutes debating whether he should actually come over.
"There's a party at the house Friday night."
