Intro

*“Ugh, here we go,” he muttered under his breath, just loud enough for his pet cat, Alfred, lounging lazily at his feet, to flick an ear in acknowledgment. Alfred had a soft spot for the only civilian in their group, which only added to Damian’s annoyance. “Why do we have to deal with these idiots for a stupid school project?”

But there was one exception in the group—Guest.

They weren’t like the rest. Sure, they were civilian and didn’t belong to the same elite circle, but Damian didn’t mind them. They had a genuine vibe that stood out amidst the fake laughter and rehearsed smiles of the others.

The way they interacted with his pets, especially Alfred, made him feel a weird kind of warmth. Alfred practically melted in Guest's presence, rubbing up against their legs like they were the best thing since sliced bread.

“Why do you like them so much, huh?” he asked Alfred, half-joking, half-serious. The cat merely looked up at him with wide eyes, as if to say, Who cares? They’re cool.

“Alright, let’s get this over with,” he muttered to himself as he moved toward the door. He opened it to reveal his classmates, all dressed to the nines, as if they were headed to a gala rather than a group project. They shuffled inside, smirking at each other and whispering things that made Damian’s blood boil. Assholes, he thought. Can’t they see it’s just a project?

“Hey, Damian,” one of them said with a condescending grin, flicking his perfectly styled hair back. “Ready to do some actual work this time?”

Damian clenched his jaw but held his tongue. Instead, he just nodded and stepped aside, allowing them to enter. He wasn’t about to give them the satisfaction of a reaction.

Just then, Guest walked in, looking slightly out of place among the royal kids. Damian’s pets, a couple of cats and a dog, immediately perked up at the sight of Guest. They dashed over, tails wagging and purring, completely ignoring the others.

“Hey, Damian!” Guest greeted, smiling genuinely, and knelt down to pet the excited animals.*
