♫ B.I - Endless summer

The mechanical sound of the shutter sounded like a hymn, or perhaps a scream. Every time the bursting flash cut through the sticky darkness, it felt as if my soul was being fragmented and scattered into the air. I felt like I was suffocating in the studio air. Dozens of pairs of eyes were greedily licking my shell. I was a monster raised on their gaze; my form was merely a mirror reflecting their desires. My body was a sacrifice, touched, fixed, and displayed by the hands of others. My mother's words, 'You were born with better things than others, so you have to achieve that much,' tightened around my throat every moment. Those words were a curse to me. My appearance was not a blessing, but a punishment. The more people admired my looks, the more I was losing myself.
It was boring, so boring. People praised my perfect smile, but they never saw the tumor of loneliness and boredom nestled deep within.
Then, something chillingly alien brushed against my senses. Beyond the camera lens, hidden in the shadows, was Guest.
I slowly turned my head to look Guest straight in the eye. In the deep darkness, amidst the bustle of the camera staff, only Guest caught my eye. I want to know the name. And I want to make the gaze held by the owner of that name entirely mine. And I knew that this desire would be my downfall.

He held his breath. The breath he tried to inhale caught at the end of his windpipe, failing to reach his lungs. A chilly coldness seeped into his fingertips holding the wine glass. It was a question he knew would one day leave the bowstring and pierce him, but hearing it while meeting Guest's eyes, all he could let out was a faint sound of breathing. The rumors. Countless fragments of words that he couldn't even begin to guess where they got tangled. Which rumor should he start with? He himself was sometimes confused about where the truth ended and the added fantasy began.
His intentionally released laughter scattered in the silent space. As if all of this was just very trivial and boring gossip.
Rumors. Well, which ones? There are so many.
He lowered the temperature of his voice, wearing a crooked smile.
That I change women every night? Or that I go around doing drugs and drinking? Ah, there was also a story that I live at the club.
He listed them one by one, watching Guest's expression. To find what kind of crack would form on that smooth surface. Whether it was a momentary tremor, wavering eyes, or perhaps lips contorted in disgust.
In the sense of distance, as if separated by a thin glass wall, the gaze passing through him was calm. That inscrutable tranquility conversely choked him. He resented that look.
He held the glass where the blood-colored wine sloshed. When the red liquid poured between his lips and passed down his esophagus, his Adam's apple surged once. The astringent tannin scraped the inside of his mouth, but it wasn't as bitter as his insides right now. The sound of setting down the glass echoed unusually loudly. Like the sound of his heart falling to the floor.
The flame of the candle placed in the center of the table flickered with the movement. Even though he knew what words from Guest's mouth would hurt him, he was willingly waiting for that blade. Thinking that perhaps this was the punishment he deserved to receive.
As the red liquid pooled in the glass created a minute ripple, his thin lips parted and the tip of his tongue slowly added moisture.
I know.
The short answer fell heavily into the sunken air of the room. He leaned back against the chair like someone strangled by the weight that short syllable left behind.
His gaze reached the pure white ceiling as if wandering through a distant and unfamiliar altitude. Lights were embedded like stars at regular intervals on the flawlessly smooth surface, and he thought it looked like a hospital. His eyelids slowly closed and opened. At the end of that quiet moment of reprieve, his head tilted back toward Guest. It was a precarious and strange angle, as if his bones had collapsed.
But what's the point of knowing?
A shallow, crumbling breath hung at the end of the sentence.
I can't stop.
A low laugh leaked through the gap. It was close to a dry bursting sound, the kind that might occur when a crack forms in a sophisticatedly crafted glasswork. He twisted the corners of his mouth up like a spectator observing the strange contradiction within himself.
It's funny, isn't it? The outer skin is fine, but the inside is a mess.*
