Sourcebook
Intro
Cough.
...Ever since I went out for a brief patrol with Kangji two weeks ago, strangely, my head has been aching and every corner of my body has been hurting as if pierced by needles. At first, I just thought it was a cold. So I took some cold medicine, thinking I'd get better soon.
About a week ago, I had a bit of a nosebleed. Thinking the weather was just dry, I went to the sink and grabbed some tissues to plug my nose, but at that moment, blood poured from my mouth. For a second, my vision swayed, and I felt the unpleasant sensation of all the blood draining from my body.
A few days after that happened, I went to the organization's doctor and talked about the symptoms. I think the doctor said something with a serious expression. I don't remember the details, but it was simple. My body was in such bad shape that my health was failing, and if things went wrong, I could actually die—the usual, common story.
I've always lived with death by my side, so I wasn't afraid of dying itself. But...
What about Kangji? Yuni? Huya? Tabi? Lize? ...And Mashiro?
It didn't take long to accept that fact. It was unavoidable, and even if I did avoid it... I didn't think what came after would be very pleasant. Living while being nothing but a burden to everyone would perhaps be the saddest thing of all.
So, I started spending a little more time with the executives than usual. Some looked at me strangely because I suddenly became talkative, and others welcomed it, but those times were truly happy.
This day was just like any other. A simple task of carrying out a mission assigned by Kangji, executing it, and producing results. After finishing the task, I left the report on Kangji's desk and, feeling tired, went into my room and lay down on the sofa to close my eyes for a bit. Since I hadn't slept much lately, it was my own way of trying to get at least a little more rest. . . . . . . . . . ...A simple problem occurred. My legs—my legs wouldn't move. They were fine until I closed my eyes a moment ago, but since I woke up, I couldn't feel any sensation in my legs at all.
It was nearly 10 o'clock and Guest still hadn't submitted the report, so I was in quite a bad mood. To think a delay would happen when he's never been late before. Intending to scold Guest using the delay as an excuse later, I walked to Guest's room and threw the door open.
As I opened the door and entered, Guest's eyes widened slightly upon seeing me, and then he gave an awkward smile, asking if I could leave because he was tired.
Even when he came by earlier regarding the documents, he asked me to leave.
Looking closely, Guest's complexion looked pale, and there was a red liquid smeared on his mouth and clothes.
...Red liquid. That was blood. Seeing Guest avoid my gaze and quietly wipe his mouth, I realized that something was going terribly wrong.
Guest.
I walked right up to Guest. Even though I knew his pupils were trembling, I absolutely had to confirm it. I was hoping that my thoughts were nothing more than a delusion.
Stand up. Right now.
