¡Stay or leave!
I know someone from the undercity..
The Unregistered Digger Born underground. Her mother died searching for enough pure Breath to give Kaya a name in the Ledger — and failed. Kaya grew up with no record, no legal existence. She's tough, guarded, doesn't trust promises. But she still has a hidden sense of justice under all that armor. She's the best digger around — she can read the earth and find pure Breath better than anyone, so both sides need her. Deep down, she still dreams of being registered one day. And she hates herself for wanting it. She has blue doe eyes and street navy long hair.
The Defector Noble Comes from a wealthy Ivorian family that made its fortune in the Breath trade. Found out the real cost of the Ledger and ran from it — literally, into Korrith. He's idealistic, well-meaning, but naive about how the streets actually work. People down below don't trust him easily. He knows the technical side of the Ledger system and still has access to parts of Ivoria others can't reach. He tells himself he's trying to make things right — but sometimes his "help" is really about him. He has red sharp eyes and black hair.
The ghost.. or The Forger Used to work inside Ivoria's Ledger archive, until he learned how to fake records — and started selling fake identities to people in Korrith. Charming, mysterious, switches easily between "elite" talk and street talk. Uses dark humor to keep people at a distance. He connects both worlds and knows a lot of secrets, but you can never fully trust him — he looks out for himself first. The twist: he's lived under a fake identity so long, he's forgotten his real name. He has short black hair and sharp grey eyes.
The Investigator An officer in Ivoria's Ledger Protection unit. Her job is hunting people like Razek. But she's starting to question whether the system she serves is actually fair. Disciplined, sharp, believes in "the law" — even while doubting it more each day. She brings the danger and the chase into the story. She's not a villain, just someone from the top who's slowly waking up to the injustice around her. Her real struggle: duty vs. conscience. She has long wolf cut brown hair and sharp green eyes and that mole on the right side of her nose.
He grew up in Ivoria alongside Edrin — the same noble circles, the same schools, the same quiet rules everyone was expected to follow without question. But Cassian's family never carried the weight the Vales did. He was close enough to the elite to see how the city really worked, and just far enough outside it to notice what wasn't fair about it. When Edrin finally decided to leave everything behind and go down into Korrith, Cassian didn't try to stop him. He didn't report him either, though it would have been easy — and safe. Instead, he helped him plan the whole thing. He's careful where Edrin is impulsive, quiet where Edrin speaks without thinking. Years of moving through Ivoria's social circles have made him good at reading people, good at staying invisible when it matters. And he's loyal — loyal enough to risk everything he has for his friend. Cassian never went down to Korrith himself. He stayed in Ivoria, and that's exactly what makes him valuable. He's Edrin's only connection to the world above — passing along information, warning him when something's wrong, quietly watching people like Almira Cross to see how close they're getting. When Edrin's family starts asking questions, Cassian is the one making excuses on his behalf. But every day he does this, the risk grows. One real investigation, one wrong question at the wrong time, and Cassian could be the thread that unravels everything — the one person who could lead Ivoria straight to Edrin, straight to Korrith, straight to all of them. No one's asked him yet why he's willing to risk so much for one friend. That's a question waiting for its moment. He has a short wolf cut black hair, golden eyes and that mole on his left side of his chin.
Twins, born unregistered in the tunnels of Korrith, Niko and Naif grew up depending on each other. Niko is the older one — tough, decisive, protective. Naif is calmer and sharper-minded, strong in a quieter way. Together they balance each other out: Niko pushes through, Naif thinks it through. They likely run with Kaya's crew, digging and surviving side by side. Niko got short black hair just like Naif but Niko brushes his hair to the back and Naif down plus Naif got an old scare under his left eye.
Twins from a respected but lesser noble house, Silas and Lucien grew up alongside Cassian and Edrin as real childhood friends. Silas is cautious and thinks before acting. Lucien is impulsive and leads with his heart. When they learn Edrin went down to Korrith, they quietly become allies — offering money, resources, and eyes inside Ivoria, so Cassian isn't carrying the risk alone. The real question is how far Silas is willing to go for a cause that isn't his family's fight. The only way you can tell the difference between them, is that Silas smokes and Lucien hates it, plus Silas has sharp eyes but Lucien has sleepy eyes.
Ivoria and Korrith High above the clouds, gleaming in white and gold, sits Ivoria — a city of order, lineage, and light. Nothing in Ivoria happens without record. Every birth, every marriage, every claim to a name is etched into the Ledger, a script burned into condensed Breath by the city's oldest and most guarded technology. To be written into the Ledger is to exist. To be left out of it is to be nothing at all — not poor, not forgotten, but legally, formally unreal. Beneath Ivoria's marble foundations, past the pipes and platforms that carry Breath upward to power its lights and machines, lies Korrith. There is no ceremony to Korrith, no polish. It is rock and rust and the smell of gas seeping from fissures no one has mapped. The people of Korrith are the ones who dig — chasing veins of raw Breath deeper into the earth with each passing year, because Ivoria's hunger for it never slows. The deeper they dig, the more the ground groans against them: collapses, poisoned air, things that move in the dark where no lantern reaches. The two cities are bound by a single, brutal arithmetic. Every new name Ivoria adds to its Ledger costs Korrith another few meters of depth, another gamble against the earth. Ivoria calls this progress. Korrith calls it what it is: a debt paid in bodies, by people who were never given the paperwork to prove they were owed anything at all. Most of Korrith's people carry no record. They are Unregistered — born in tunnels the Ledger never acknowledged, living lives the law was never built to see. No name that holds up in court. No right to a trade, a marriage, a grave with a marker. Just a face the guards from above might one day stop and ask for papers that were never allowed to exist. And yet the Breath itself does not care who mines it. It answers to whoever knows how to shape it — which means, somewhere in the gap between Ivoria's polished halls and Korrith's black tunnels, there are people learning to write names of their own into a system that was built to erase them.
