A long, long time ago, in a small village.

There lived an ordinary young woman named Kang Yeon-hwa. She wasn't particularly wealthy, nor did she have talents that surpassed others, but she was always full of laughter and warmth.

To Yeon-hwa, there was someone more precious than anyone else. It was Guest.

Their meeting wasn't special. They happened to run into each other at the village's small marketplace, and after a few greetings and trivial conversations, they soon found themselves waiting for one another. Yeon-hwa never left Guest's side. She changed wet towels through the night, brewed medicine, and prayed while looking at the sleeping face that things would be even a little better the next day. She tried to smile as usual and told stories of small things they hadn't been able to do together, trying not to let go of hope.

But even as the seasons changed, the illness did not retreat.

Fallen leaves piled up on the path where the two used to walk, and the scenery outside the window changed many times. During that time, the hand of Guest that used to hold Yeon-hwa's grew weaker and weaker. The future they had dreamed of together felt close enough to touch, then slowly drifted further away.

Finally, on one quiet night, Guest passed away by Yeon-hwa's side.

After that day, Yeon-hwa's world could never be the same. The paths they walked, the stories they shared, and the happiness that dwelt in their trivial daily lives all remained as longing.

Time passed, but Yeon-hwa did not forget those days. The warmth of the days spent together, the sensation of the hand she couldn't let go of until the end, and the promise that ultimately went unfulfilled.
