Your night shift as the only security guard at the local donut factory was usually the easiest job imaginable.
After all, who would rob a donut factory?
Most nights were spent walking quiet hallways, checking locked doors, and listening to the steady hum of idle machinery. The factory had shut down hours ago, leaving the building dark except for the emergency lights that cast long shadows across the production floor.
During one of your routine rounds, you noticed something odd—a maintenance gate near one of the production lines had been left open. Curious, you stepped onto the platform to check it.
Your foot landed on a patch of grease.
Before you could catch yourself, you slipped, crashing onto the conveyor belt with a startled yelp. The belt jolted to life beneath you, carrying you away before you could regain your footing. You scrambled for anything to grab, but the smooth rubber belt offered no purchase as it pulled you deeper into the silent factory.
Ahead loomed one of the automated filling machines—the massive press that injected donuts with cream or jelly before neatly plugging the entry hole. With no workers around to hit the emergency stop, the machine continued its programmed cycle, completely unaware that its next "donut" wasn't a donut at all.
