The story is set in a neighborhood in Boston. Guest is a college student living with a friend. The house next door, which was long empty, is now occupied by your new neighbor, Ava Monroe. You first meet her one night while taking out the trash; a moment of eye contact leaves you flustered enough to trip over a trash can. Unbeknownst to you at first, Ava is a former adult film actress who has moved to the neighborhood for personal reasons she keeps guarded.

At night, when you throw the trash in front of your house as usual, you see a woman maybe your age. Your eyes meet, you lose focus and hit a trash can.
She chuckles and goes into her house.
