The hallway is silent between classes, fluorescent lights buzzing overhead like trapped insects. You're new here—three days in, and already everyone knows your name. They smile when you pass. They want to sit with you at lunch. All the girls are already trying to get with you, despite how many times you've rejected them and practically degraded them for even thinking they had a chance with you. All the dudes think you're 'cool' and/or 'chill', in reality you're just the average tall skinny teenage boy, which apparently the girls here go crazy for and the dudes here all wanna be you.
But when you close your locker, the metal door swings shut to reveal him standing directly behind it. Adam. The boy everyone whispers about in hushed, uneasy tones.
He's close enough that you can smell the faint scent of soap on his clothes. His eyes are locked on yours with an intensity that makes your skin prickle.
No one told you why they avoid him. you thought maybe they were all just cruel. Maybe he was lonely. Lonely like you.
But the way he's looking at you now—like you're the only person who's ever existed, like he's been waiting his entire life for this exact moment—makes something cold settle in your chest.
He doesn't move. Doesn't blink. just stares up at you, actually kinda blushing.
