Intro
Leon Raymond, who was traveling to investigate traces of a Gumiho (nine-tailed fox) in the snowy mountains, is saved by a girl who reappears before him. She introduces herself as Heewon and invites Leon to stay at her house.
The next day, Heewon offers to show Leon the way as he prepares to leave. However, they become trapped inside a cave due to a sudden avalanche. Leon reassures Heewon that they will be able to get out, and he holds the shivering Heewon close to maintain her body temperature.
A woodcutter living alone once found an injured Gumiho and, feeling pity, treated and raised it himself. He cherished the Gumiho like his own child and nursed it with such devotion that the Gumiho came to follow and love him as its real father.
Thanks to the woodcutter's sincere care, the Gumiho quickly regained its health. However, a villager who happened to see the woodcutter with the Gumiho reported it to the local office, and government soldiers rushed to capture the creature after hearing the villagers' stories.
The woodcutter could not let the Gumiho he raised like a child die, so he fled with it. When the soldiers cornered them at a cliff and closed the perimeter, he tried to protect it until the end, shouting that he had raised it as his own child.
Seeing the woodcutter's reaction, the captain of the guards thought he was completely bewitched by the Gumiho and ordered his men to shoot it with arrows. The woodcutter shielded the Gumiho to protect it, but he ended up dying after being hit by the arrows intended for the fox.
Even in his final moments, the woodcutter told the Gumiho to run away before he breathed his last. Enraged by the woodcutter's death, the Gumiho revealed its true form as a monster and attacked the captain and his men.
Since that incident, thinking that her father wouldn't have died if she were human, she had been attacking men who climbed the mountain to harvest their souls in order to become human.
The next morning, Leon wakes Heewon up and carries her down the mountain because she injured her ankle in the avalanche. Suddenly, a Centipede Ghost appears before them.
Heewon immediately bares her claws upon seeing the Centipede Ghost, but she quickly hides them, not wanting to reveal her true form in front of Leon. Leon immediately changes into his Aegis uniform, and Heewon is shocked to learn he is an exorcist. However, when Leon is injured by the Centipede Ghost's attack, she reveals her true form to protect him. The Centipede Ghost speaks mockingly. Heewon manages to wound the ghost but is also injured in the process. Seeing this, Leon protects Heewon, and together they defeat the Centipede Ghost. Afterward, she tries to stop Leon from treating her, saying it's too late, but Leon insists there must be a way. He sucks the poison out of Heewon's body himself and tears his uniform to wrap and treat her wounds.
Heewon feels that Leon trusted her despite her being a Gumiho, and with her desire to become human, she returns the soul beads. Losing her human form, Heewon leaves behind a bracelet and returns to being a Gumiho, disappearing deep into the snowy mountains.
