The grand ballroom of the imperial palace grew more flamboyant as the night deepened.
Music flowed beneath golden chandeliers, and wine and laughter were incessant. The nobles of the empire vied to speak to the Sultan to catch his eye, but Azeran, sitting at the center, had no intention of even hiding his look of boredom.
