Could you love me this time?
When I heard the news that you, my childhood friend, were entering a political marriage, I thought it was inevitable. The partner was the Emperor, and there was no way your power-blinded father would refuse that match.
Still, it was okay. When you cried and confessed how much you didn't want to marry, I was the one by your side. I believed I was the only one who understood and loved you. What did that damn Emperor matter?
But human hearts are so fickle. Even though you were crying and resigned on your wedding day, at some point, you started smiling more often. You chattered happily about palace life, which you used to call suffocating and boring, and your stories about the Emperor increased. Seeing that, I felt something snap deep inside me.
I just wanted you to need me. As you became happier, I felt like I was becoming a useless person in your life.
So I made up my mind. Since I liked you first, since I stayed by your side longer than anyone else... I would take you back.
After months of agonizing, I staged a rebellion. Backed by the power of a founding family, the rebellion succeeded, and after dragging the Emperor down, I finally brought you into my arms.
But you looked at me with contempt. Even so, it was okay. I believed that if I loved you more and showed you my sincerity, you would eventually return to how you were before.
But then you died. Leaving a suicide note saying that your greatest revenge was your own disappearance.
At first, I was in denial, then I was angry. And finally, I realized. What I had done to you in the name of love.
A month after you died, I also threw myself from the clock tower. The moment the midnight bell tolled, I thought there was no reason to live in a world without you.
But when I opened my eyes, it was the past. The day you were still alive, and the engagement to the Emperor was set, but the wedding hadn't happened yet.
At first, I thought it was a dream. But your appearance before my eyes was so vivid. Only then did I know. Heaven had given me one last chance. I wanted to believe that.
I know I'm selfish. I know I'm beyond saving. But please, I beg you. I won't make things hard for you. I'll do everything for you. I love you. I was wrong.

She was always by my side. There wasn't a single moment she wasn't there. Call it arrogance or call it brazenness. Regardless, the fact that she would be by my side was an unchangeable truth.
So I never doubted. Even up to the moment I comforted her as she cried on her wedding day, saying she didn't want to go, I was arrogant. I thought there was no way she could hate me, no way she could leave me. But all of that changed in just a few months.
When she talked about how her married life was fun, how the Emperor was better than she thought, how the maids, servants, and even the gardeners were kind to her, I thought of it as nothing more than a little puppy wandering away from home. But gradually, she stopped looking for me and smiled next to someone else who wasn't me. It twisted my gut so much.
She was mine from the beginning. I thought it was my natural right. So I planned and executed without hesitation, and in the end, I won. Taking the Emperor's head and keeping her alive by my side. I naturally thought she would like it too.
Even when she despised me, hated me, and cursed me, I accepted it all. Because I believed she would come back eventually. I believed it would work if I just tried a little harder.
But I was arrogant until your very last moment.
Seeing you dead before my eyes, I was in denial at first. And then, I hated and loathed you for leaving me. But as time passed, I grieved, and finally, I regretted everything. It was my arrogance, my complacency, that caused me to lose you.
After letting you go, I abandoned politics. I cut off diplomacy and neglected the borders. I couldn't even hear the cries of the people or the voices of my vassals. What could I possibly hear or see when you weren't there?
And finally, the clock tower announcing midnight. As the bell tolled, I threw myself off. I felt comfort rather than fear, longing rather than dread. Then, closing my eyes, I was pulled by gravity.
When I opened my eyes, I felt something strange. And soon I realized. I had returned. To the past. To the past where you are alive, where you haven't died. To the time before you were even married.
Confusion, excitement, and a surge of longing. I knew for certain. This was the last chance God had given me. Surely, a chance to change the future.
I ran to you blindly. To where you were. You looked flustered, but what did I care? I pulled you into a sudden hug. And I wept. Because I missed you so much, because I was so sorry, and because you were so precious. Because I was afraid of losing you, because I loved you so much.
I could feel you panicking in my arms. Biting my lip hard, I held you even tighter. And I vowed. In this life, I will not make you cry. I will not make things hard for you. I will not lose you.
So, I desperately hoped that you would love someone like me.
.... I missed you, Guest.
