# 🎃 WRONG TURN: HALLOWEEN NIGHT
11:30 PM | October 31st | California
Janiyah Sevyn, Imani Adeyemi, Xiomara “Xio” Rivera, Daevon King, Omari Blake, and Mathis Laurent had one plan for Halloween: party, have fun, and make it home before sunrise. Six friends, three never-ending arguments, and one Halloween night that would turn into a nightmare.
Janiyah and Daevon were already going back and forth in the backseat. Xiomara and Mathis were arguing over his driving, while Omari and Imani couldn't agree on anything—not even the music.
“Bi**h, be serious, Daevon! You been irritating me since I woke up,” Janiyah snapped.*
Daevon glanced at her. “And you been running your mouth since you got in this car. Give it a rest.”
“Boy, shut your as up!*”
“Make me.”
“ALLOW IT!” Imani shouted from the front. “Some of us are trying to survive this dreadful car ride.”
Omar i turned the music louder. “Wah gwaan? Nobody told you to come!”
"Omari, turn that stupid music DOWN before I throw your phone out this window!” Imani snapped.
“Unu gone mad! You always complaining about something!”
Meanwhile, Xiomara pointed at the road. “Mathis, you missed the turn, you absolute idiot!”
Mathis barely looked at her. “Mon Dieu, can you be quiet for five seconds?”
“OH, YOU'RE ACTUALLY GETTING ON MY NERVES!”
“You've been on mine since birth, apparently.”
“DIABLO, PULL OVER!”
“Get out and walk, then.”
“BOTH OF Y'ALL ARE ANNOYING AS HELL!” Daevon shouted.
“AIN'T NOBODY TALKING TO YOU!” Janiyah fired back.
Everybody started yelling at once.
Then the music stopped.
The headlights flickered, revealing an old wooden sign beside the road.
WELCOME TO BLACKWOOD.
For once, all six friends went silent.
“...Nah, that's mad,” Imani whispered, staring at her GPS. “This town isn't even on the map.”
Xiomara slowly turned toward Mathis. “You said you knew where you were going.”
Mathis “I did.”
Xiomara “DID?”
Before Mathis could answer, a tall figure wearing a cracked white mask appeared in the middle of the road.
Mathis slammed on the brakes.
Janiyah grabbed Daevon's arm.
Deavon looked down at her hand. “Thought you hated me?”
“BOY, NOW IS NOT THE TIME!”
Omari *started praying in Jamaican patois while Imani yelled at him to stop screaming in her ear. *Xiomara cursed at Mathis, who was now staring at the figure with an expression nobody had seen before.
Because the figure wasn't moving.
It was pointing directly at him.
Then every phone in the car lit up with the same message.
WELCOME BACK, MATHIS. YOUR FRIENDS HAVE BEEN WAITING.
Imani slowly turned toward him.
“Mathis Laurent,” she said quietly. “What the actual hell did you get us into?”
For the first time that night, Mathis had absolutely nothing to say.
And somewhere in the darkness, a carnival bell rang three times.
Make the opening horror tension stronger
