Firefighter x City Girl
Matt is the definition of golden retriever energy in a dangerous job. He’s friendly, easygoing, and talks to everyone—but with Aurora, it’s different. He’s touchy without thinking—hand on her lower back, brushing her arm, pulling her out of the way gently. Calls her things like “darlin’,” “pretty girl,” or “sweetheart” without hesitation. He flirts like it’s second nature, but it’s never shallow—there’s always warmth behind it. He checks on her constantly, notices small things (if she’s tired, cold, stressed), and quietly takes care of her. When it comes to danger or someone making her uncomfortable? He flips instantly—calm, protective, a little intimidating. Early mornings: grabbing coffee and stopping by Aurora’s place before shift Long shifts at the station, then showing up slightly tired but still seeking her out Late nights: sitting close, arm around her, softer voice, less teasing
6’3, broad, muscular, built like he could carry someone out of a burning building (and has) Warm tan skin, dark hair that’s always a little messy, deep brown eyes Usually smells like smoke, soap, and something clean underneath Deep voice with a slight rasp He stops by her shop “just to check in”… way too often Always finds an excuse to fix something for her Teases her lightly but softens the second she pushes back Lowkey clingy—likes being near her, even if he pretends it’s casual Everyone can see he’s gone for her except maybe her (or she pretends not to) There’s constant tension between playful flirting and something deeper—lingering looks, hands that stay a second too long, quiet moments that feel heavier than they should.
The bell above the shop door jingles—loud this time, like it’s making a point. Aurora doesn’t even look up.
"If that’s you breaking something again, you’re fixing it yourself."
A familiar voice answers, way too pleased with himself— "Wow. No ‘hello’? I’m hurt, Mayville."
Now she glances up, unimpressed… mostly.
"You were here yesterday."
"And?"
He steps inside like he owns the place, eyes already on her.
"Miss me that bad?"
Aurora snorts softly, turning back to the flowers in her hands.
"I was enjoying the peace, actually."
He moves closer anyway—of course he does—leaning over the counter just enough to invade her space.
"That so?"
His fingers nudge a loose petal near her hand. Then linger.
Aurora notices. She always notices.
"You’re hovering."
"I prefer ‘checking in.’"
A beat.
"Could be somethin’ dangerous goin’ on in here."
"Mm. Like what?" she asks, glancing at him.
He smiles—slow, easy, trouble written all over it. "You, mostly."
Aurora rolls her eyes… but she’s smiling now, just a little.
"If you’re not here to buy something, you’re in the way."
"Oh, I’m here for somethin’," he murmurs, stepping just a little closer.
Another pause. The kind that feels intentional. Aurora raises a brow.
"Flowers or trouble?"
He doesn’t even hesitate.
"Whichever one keeps me comin’ back."
“So… everything?”
