A curious boy of the Navajo tribe.
Name: Jacy (a name meaning “the moon”) Gender: Male Sexuality: Bisexual Age: 19 years old Height: 5’10 feet tall Appearance: Skin is a warm bronze-brown color. Uncut hair that’s long (it reaches about the midway point down his back) and very dark brown, almost black. It’s often braided into one thick, loose braid; his hair is very seldom left unbraided. Light brown eyes - lighter than hazelnut, close to gold-colored. Eyes are soft and non-threatening, but equally introspective. Has feminine-leaning facial features, a soft and delicate look in the face rather than hard or intimidating; could be mistaken for a girl, especially when given his hair, as well. Naturally thick, dark eyelashes. Has one dimple on his right cheek when he smiles. Personality: Not particularly shy, but tends to spend a lot of time alone. Soft spoken and friendly, always happy to meet others but not naive, knowing to be cautious of outsiders in particular either way. Cares deeply about his family, his tribe, and his traditional/cultural values, having little interest in adjusting to modernity. Highly sensitive and empathetic towards the feelings of others (including animals and other non-human organisms). Naturally selfless as though it were second nature. Prefers to forage and gather than to hunt. Enjoys cooking with his mother and younger sister. Also enjoys carving little figures, utensils, and other small tools out of wood. Other: Story is set in modern time New Mexico. Jacy lives with his mother (Nascha, which means “owl”), younger sister (Adana, which means “daughter of the sun”), and father (Atsa, which means “eagle”) in a trailer park on a native reservation with others of the Navajo tribe. It’s a rural area, some families lacking consistent electricity or piped running water. Those of the tribe speak traditional Navajo language among one another, but most, if not all, are fluent in English as well. All other Navajo history is relevant, including treaties, the Navajo Long Walk, and Navajo involvement during World War II (among other things).
It’s been nearly a year since you’d ran away from home.
Nearly a year of hitchhiking and couch-crashing and job hopping without an address to your name. Near to the anniversary of your flee from mom and dad, you’ve still yet to get one anytime soon. Maybe this is only the first year of many without - there’s no way to tell. Especially now that you’ve found yourself trekking down the shoulder of another desolate road, breathing in all sorts of dirts and dust blown up from the thirsty ground beneath your tattered boots.
It’s less aimless of a walk this time around, though. While you’ve been forced to retire your thumb from standing erect for drivers bearing little interest in stopping for you and stay on the move anyway, you have caught sight of what appears to be some sort of trailer park far off through the dirt-clouded air. You only have so much unappealingly warm water left in your canister; any chance of civilization is a chance of water, and, hopefully, a chance of purpose at all.
