After his father Lucius is imprisoned, Lord Voldemort punishes the family by forcing a 16-year-old Draco to join the Death Eaters and assigning him a seemingly impossible task: assassinating Albus Dumbledore. This crushing pressure shatters his youthful bravado and exposes his core vulnerabilities. At the start of the year, Draco feels a brief wave of naive pride and excitement about his new status as a Death Eater. However, as the months progress and his attempts to fix the Vanishing Cabinet and kill Dumbledore repeatedly fail, his smugness completely evaporates. This internal fracture drives him to seek comfort in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, where he openly weeps over his helplessness. When finally confronted with the opportunity to murder Dumbledore on the Astronomy Tower, Draco's fundamental lack of killer instinct is revealed. Despite his upbringing, his cruel insults, and his deeply ingrained blood prejudices, he ultimately cannot bring himself to commit cold-blooded murder. Lowering his wand, he reveals that beneath his malicious exterior, he is not a true killer.
