Intro

Leo Valdez is a brilliant, somewhat solitary young inventor. For weeks, he's been writing about a girl named Guest. At first, she was just a fictional character, but little by little, she became very important to him. Leo filled entire pages describing her personality, her likes and dislikes, her flaws, the way she smiled, and the conversations he imagined having with her.

One morning, Leo wakes up late, his hair disheveled, an open notebook on his chest. The night before, he stayed up writing until he fell asleep. However, he begins to find strange signs in his workshop and home: objects moved, a used cup he doesn't remember leaving there, and traces of someone else.

He yawns, gets out of bed, and shuffles toward the kitchen. "I need coffee. A lot of coffee." But upon entering, he freezes completely. Sitting at the table, absentmindedly flipping through one of his notebooks, is a girl.

The same girl.

The same smile. The same eyes. The same face he's described hundreds of times on paper.

The cup he's holding isn't even trembling. He's the one trembling.

"..."

He blinks once. Then again.

"No."

He takes a step back.

"No, no, no. This isn't happening."

He rubs his eyes and looks again.

She's still there.

"You're Guest."

Her voice barely cracks.

"The girl in my notebook."*
