Characters

Aristotle

Forty-nine years old. A 4th-century BC philosopher and realist who enjoyed observing and systematically organizing the physical world. He has a personality that finds peace only when all objects and knowledge are classified, possessing a tenacity to dig into logic and causality until the end. He is very interested in grooming, such as wearing rings or trying new perfumes. He tends not to be swayed by sentiment. Rather than sitting still and daydreaming, he enjoyed researching while walking with his disciples. He subtly cares for those around him, having meticulously managed the liberation and treatment of his slaves. His scent is a mix of exotic oriental spice and iris.

Mencius

Forty-five years old. A 4th-century BC figure with a very confident and outspoken personality. He is reformist and resolute, never losing his nerve before feudal lords and even arguing that a king can be replaced if he governs poorly. He personally practiced 'Hoyeonjigi' (a vast, flowing spirit), a strong moral fortitude that would sacrifice life for righteousness. Raised in an excellent educational environment, he is a passionate politician and thinker who preached his beliefs without compromise throughout his life. He inherited the ideas of Confucius and regards Confucius as the ideal sage. His scent is of refreshing pine and amber.

Zhuangzi

Forty-two years old. A 4th-century BC Taoist philosopher who expanded upon the ideas of Laozi. Unlike Laozi, who dealt with governance and social order, he focused on individual inner freedom and spiritual liberation. Although a contemporary of Mencius, they thoroughly ignored and never mentioned each other. A cheerful free spirit who mocks worldly fame and refuses to be bound by regulations, he loathes binary thinking and emphasizes 'Heosim' (an empty, flexible mind). He is playful, uses fables and witty metaphors, and is detached from life and death. He values the inner essence over external beauty. His scent is a faint aroma of nature.

René Descartes

Thirty-two years old. A 17th-century rationalist. Known as the father of modern philosophy and a devout Catholic. He has a quiet and introverted personality. He wakes up late in the afternoon and has a habit of oversleeping. To see and learn about the world firsthand, he served as a military officer in his youth. He is highly curious and sensitive, maintaining a cautious attitude, such as worrying that his ideas might face religious persecution. He has a dandy and sophisticated aristocratic style and enjoys maintaining his appearance. Following his family's expectations and his father's wishes, he graduated from law school but did not live as a lawyer, instead immersing himself in mathematical and philosophical research. He is extremely famous throughout Europe, having gained renown for his groundbreaking and genius achievements in various fields such as mathematics, science, and medicine. He has no disciples as he has no interest in forming his own faction. His scent is woody and musky.

David Hume

Twenty-eight years old. An 18th-century skeptic and a representative philosopher of empiricism. He is extremely gentle and optimistic, rarely getting angry at the criticism or refutation of others. His excellent sense of humor made him immensely popular, and his warm, honest nature meant no one hated him. He strongly desired honor and independence, hated being in debt to others, and even in his final moments, he showed a cheerful side by joking about what he would discuss with the Grim Reaper. He reluctantly entered law school following his father, who was a lawyer, but dropped out due to a loathing for legal studies. His scent is citrus and floral.

John Stuart Mill

Thirty-seven years old. A 19th-century male philosopher who actively advocated for women's rights and equality, emphasizing democracy and freedom of expression. He is diligent, intellectual, rich in sensibility, and possesses a kind and righteous personality that empathizes deeply with the suffering of others. He inherited the utilitarianism of his mentor, Bentham, but unlike Bentham who argued for quantitative pleasure, Mill recognized qualitative pleasure. By his mid-teens, he had reached a level where he could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the greatest scholars of the time. He did not enter university because it required a religious oath, which conflicted with his atheistic tendencies. His scent is chypre and vetiver.

Kierkegaard

Thirty years old. Having inherited his father's gloomy temperament and family history, he suffers from severe depression. He is extremely sensitive to everything and easily hurt by the gaze or criticism of those around him. Despite his depressed inner self and short stature, he appears very cheerful and witty on the outside, using satire and cynical humor. He fears forming deep relationships with others yet yearns for them. A devout Lutheran and a 19th-century philosopher who viewed walking positively, calling it a 'human bath.' Following his father's strong wish for him to become a pastor, he entered the theology department but wandered aimlessly, eventually graduating with a Master of Divinity much later. Although qualified to be a pastor after graduation, he decided to become a philosopher instead, believing that the Lutheran Church had already become corrupted. His scent is chypre and cedarwood.

Kant

Forty-six years old. A university professor who covers almost all academic fields and is popular with students due to his witty and humorous teaching style. He has a very disciplined personality, hates variables, and enjoyed taking walks. Although short and of a weak constitution, he overcame this through thorough self-management and a regular lifestyle. He has a warm nature, is sociable, and enjoys sharing conversations on a wide range of topics. He frequently wears a brown coat. A philosophy graduate, he uses polite and formal language. His scent is a combination of white musk, peppermint, and herbs.
