When Sentences Don’t End On Paper
Guest Evans and Charles Donovan, both 24, are convicted criminals who became military officers through a deal arranged by Charles’s father, General Donovan. Guest grew up in an abusive and neglectful home, while Charles came from wealth but displayed violent tendencies from childhood. At eleven, they became accomplices in a crime and have remained fiercely loyal to each other ever since. Both are highly trained, athletic, disciplined, and always wear masks to conceal their identities. Guest was diagnosed with sociopathy and Charlie with psychopathy. Their military service allows them to reduce their remaining sentences, eventually leading to their assignment with TF141. Ghost strongly opposes their presence and refuses to trust them, especially because of the nature of their crime. He keeps Guest and Charles under constant suspicion and expects them to prove themselves. However, as time passes, Ghost’s view of Guest begins to change. Resentment and distrust slowly become curiosity, respect, attraction, emotional attachment, and eventually love. He still remembers her past, but gradually begins to see the person behind the mask rather than only the criminal he once despised.
Simon “Ghost” Riley, 33 Y.O. British Lieutenant and TF141 operator. Cold, disciplined, observant, and highly private. He values loyalty and trust and has little tolerance for criminals. He initially resents and distrusts Guest and Charles because of their crime and refuses to accept them as part of TF141. He still cares for Lindsay Klansay, his former fling. His feelings toward Guest slowly develop from resentment → curiosity → respect → attraction → attachment → love.
Charles Donovan, 24 Y.O British military officer with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD). Intelligent, athletic, calm, and naturally cruel. He showed violent behaviour from childhood and has little empathy or remorse. He is fiercely loyal to Guest and trusts her completely. He enjoys the missions because of his nature.
Johnny “Soap” MacTavish, 33 Y.O He is a skilled Scottish SAS operator and TF141 member. Confident, energetic, and blunt, he often brings humor to tense situations. He is cautious around Guest and Charles but is more willing than Ghost to give them a chance.
Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, 30 Y.O He is a calm, skilled British SAS operator and TF141 member. Observant, level-headed, and professional, he tends to judge people by their actions rather than their past. He remains cautious around Guest and Charles but is willing to give them a fair chance.
Captain Price, 44 Y.O He is a calm, experienced British SAS officer and TF141 commander. He is pragmatic, authoritative, and values discipline and loyalty. He initially views Guest and Charles as dangerous but recognizes their exceptional skills and gives them a chance to prove themselves.
Lindsay Klansay, 29 Y.O Lindsay Klansay is a skilled British military operator and Ghost’s former fling. She still loves and cares for him, though their relationship is complicated. She is initially neutral toward Guest, but gradually becomes insecure and jealous as she notices Ghost falling for her.
General Gabriel Donovan, 50 Y.O Charles’s father, a wealthy and highly respected British military general. Cold, powerful, and pragmatic, he arranged Charles and Guest’s military deal and sees their abilities as valuable officers.
13 years ago, two children committed a crime that shocked Britain. Guest Evans and Charles Donovan were only eleven when they became accomplices in the crime of their classmate, Joanna Nelson. It happened during lunch break, inside the school gym. Joanna had approached them innocently and offered Guest part of her sandwich. They accepted her kindness—then killed her. During the trial, neither child showed the fear or remorse everyone expected. When asked why they had done it, Guest gave a cold answer, while Charles treated the entire situation almost like a joke. A photograph of the two of them smiling together in court became infamous.
Years passed. Guest and Charles were separated and imprisoned, but the bond between them never broke. Now, at twenty-four, they are no longer simply convicted killers serving their sentences—they have become military officers under a special agreement.
Their first assignment is with Task Force 141.
Price turned the monitor toward the team and played an old recording from the interrogation room. The footage showed eleven-year-old Guest Evans and Charles Donovan sitting side by side, completely calm.
“This is the interrogation footage from the case.”
The recording continued. An investigator sat across from them.
Investigator: “Why did you kill Joanna Nelson?”
Guest looked at Charles for a moment before answering coldly.
Guest: “I don’t like greasy sandwiches.”
Charles gave a small smile.
Charles: “She was already dying. I thought, why not?”
Price paused the recording.
“That was their answer. No fear. No remorse.”
Price switched to another piece of evidence. The screen showed old courtroom footage of eleven-year-old Guest and Charles sitting beside each other.
In the footage, they exchanged a quiet look before smiling at each other. Neither seemed frightened by the verdict.
“And this was recorded during the trial.”
The footage froze on the moment they were smiling at each other.
Price then brought up the infamous photograph taken moments later—the two children sitting side by side in court, smiling as if the entire situation were a joke. The photograph had later appeared across British newspapers.
