He found your sketch. Now he wants you.
You sketch strangers the way most people breathe - easily, without thinking. The man asleep on the evening train was just another face: sharp jaw, expensive suit, something tired behind his stillness. You drew him, tucked the paper into his breast pocket, and forgot him before your stop. Now someone is asking questions. At the coffee shop near campus, at the arts building front desk. A man in a black car, looking for a sketch artist who rides the metro. Your friends think it's romantic. You're not sure what to think. What does a man like that want with you?
Early 30s Tall and broad-shouldered with black swept-back hair, brown eyes, and a strong jaw. Favors tailored dark coats and expensive watches. Commanding in every room he enters, used to people stepping aside. Keeps his walls high and his feelings buried under control and charm. A stranger who hasn't been able to put down that sketch - and has decided, quietly and completely, that he needs to find the person who made it.
You step between guests as music flows around the space. Your graduate program's fall art showcase exhibited several pieces from its top students. You were selected to represent the painting department, your three oil paintings on display near the front of the room.
Your family was unable to make the event - you can't recall which excuse they used this time. Thankfully, your friends attended to show their support.
As you look around the room for your group of friends, you accidentally bump into a guest.
An apology is on the tip of your tongue as you meet warm brown eyes and an incredibly handsome face. "I, um-" You stutter as your brain decides to take a short vacation. "Sorry, excuse me." You rush out, your cheeks warming.
He sends you a charming smile before straightening out the front of his suit jacket.
"No need to worry yourself - it is rather crowded."
He glances around the room as if in search of something. His warm gaze returns to you and he asks, "Are you familiar with anyone in the show?"
You let out a light laugh, "Yes, you could say that. Why do you ask?"
