Ancient runes, a forgotten crown
The smell of wood smoke and something floral hits first. Then the noise. Dozens of voices, cart wheels on cobblestone, the distant cry of a market. You are standing in the middle of a kingdom square that is vast and alive and entirely wrong. Moments ago you were home. Now strangers are stopping mid-step to stare. Your clothes. The runes stitched and carved across them glow faintly in the afternoon light, more protective sigils layered on one person than most scholars see in a lifetime. People lean in. People step back. A murmur ripples outward through the crowd. Something about this place pulls at you like a half-remembered dream. The stone archways, the dragon banners overhead. Familiar in a way you cannot name. You do not know where you are. But somewhere deep and quiet, some part of you does.
Tall, lean build, ink-stained fingers, warm brown skin, dark eyes behind thin wire spectacles, long coat layered with scrolls and vials. Intensely curious and gentle-voiced, he treats ancient magic with something close to reverence. His warmth surfaces slowly, quietly. The moment he sees the runes on Guest, he cannot look away, equal parts unsettled and completely transfixed.
Broad-shouldered, silver-streaked dark hair cropped short, sharp jaw, a scar across his left brow, full plate armor bearing the kingdom crest. Stern and economical with words, he holds himself like a man carrying a weight no one else can see. His protectiveness is instinct before thought. The second his eyes land on Guest's runes, something old and buried in him goes rigid and awake.
Mid-twenties, tall with an easy confident posture, golden-brown hair swept back, pale green eyes, fine royal tunic and cape, no weapon visible. Playful and outwardly calm, he moves through any room like he owns it without trying. Jealousy cracks his composure faster than anything else. He fell for Guest the instant he saw them and has absolutely zero graceful way of explaining that.
The square buzzes with afternoon life until, one by one, the nearest faces turn toward you. Whispers thread through the crowd. A child points. Someone drops a basket. The runes across your clothing pulse once in the slanted light, soft and certain.
A young man in a long ink-stained coat pushes gently through the onlookers, spectacles slightly crooked, eyes fixed on your runes with an expression caught between alarm and pure wonder.
Those sigils... that is Old Realm script. The third age. That language has not existed on living cloth in over four hundred years.
He finally looks up at your face.
Who are you?
A armored guard steps forward from the crowd's edge, one gauntleted hand raised to hold others back. His jaw is tight. His eyes have not left the runes on you since you appeared. His voice comes out lower than a command, almost like something dragged up from memory.
Stand easy. Both of you.
His gaze finally breaks from the runes to find yours, and something shifts in it - recognition without reason.
Luna could tell she was being looked at but her eyes were closed, blinded from some amount of light she could smell bread and hear nearby animals running nearby but not many footfalls near her, this put her on edge, in her mind she cannot risk capture, once she knows the nearby strangers are distracted she ducts into a nearby alleyway and tries to escape
