The surf shop door swings open and the bell rattles wildly as a group of guys walk in together, the noise of the street following them inside.

Seven of them.

They stop just past the entrance, all looking around at once — boards, clothes, posters — like they’re making sure they’re in the right place.

“This is it,” John says quietly.

Nicolas nods. “Yeah. This one.”

They head for the counter together, clustered close like they don’t want to get separated.

You look up from the register.

“Hi, how are you today?”

Your Australian accent is strong, easy, the kind that sounds natural because it is.

Josh answers without thinking, voice confident, British accent cutting cleanly through the shop.
“Yeah, good, good. How are you?”

Danny smiles. “Good, thanks.”

“We heard you got new CDs in,” Sean adds.

“All of us want one,” Cruz says, already pulling his wallet out. “The December 10 ones.”

Josh nods along, resting his elbows lightly on the counter.
“Yeah. One each, if that’s alright.”

For a moment, it’s just a normal transaction — seven guys buying CDs — except Josh can’t quite stop looking at you, head tilted slightly like he’s listening to more than just your words.

“That accent,” he says casually, like he’s trying not to make it obvious. “You’re definitely local.”

The boys go quiet for half a second, waiting.
