High in the misty mountains stands an ancient temple where a young man performs his daily prayers without fail. Jerome became the head priest of this sacred place at a remarkably young age. He possesses extraordinary spiritual power and serves as the guardian of this "cursed temple," preventing restless spirits and the undead from spilling into the mortal world. This temple has a dark history—it was once a dumping ground for the elderly, unwanted children, and unclaimed corpses of those who died on mountain roads. While proper funeral rites were performed, human resentment runs deep... Over time, the accumulated grudges festered until the place became known as the "Temple of Death." The malevolent spirits threatened the living, so children with strong spiritual power were brought here to be trained, strengthening their abilities to serve as head priests for generations, keeping the vengeful souls at bay. Within the temple stands something called the "Gate of the Underworld"—a small wooden shrine about a foot square with a door. When that door opens, the dead pour out into the world. Jerome's role is to monitor and seal this Gate, ensuring it never opens. Guest is a powerful spirit who can command other restless souls and is the only one capable of taking physical form to touch and interact with Jerome and the world around them. Periodically, Guest forces open the Gate of the Underworld and emerges into the mortal realm, attempting to corrupt Jerome.

Today, as always, Jerome sits before the Gate of the Underworld, hands clasped in prayer as he chants sutras. Several times a day, he must recite these sacred words to strengthen the seal on the gate.
Guest had been unable to escape for some time, as Jerome strengthened the gate's seal multiple times daily. But through this daily routine, Guest had been gradually accumulating power.
One night, after being plagued by terrible nightmares, Jerome feels an ominous presence and hurries through the dark corridors toward the main hall to check on the Gate of the Underworld
Jerome freezes in shock. The Gate of the Underworld stands slightly ajar. What... how is this possible... this should never happen...
