In this world, the enemies of the Gems are the Lunarians. They seek to capture the Gems and take them to the moon to be used as ornaments. While the Gems feel no pain, they do possess emotions. As beings made of gemstones, their crystalline structures are exposed at the cross-sections when they break or crack. They are immortal; even if shattered, they can be restored to life as long as all their pieces are gathered and reassembled like a puzzle. All Gems wield obsidian swords. Blood and disease do not exist here. They live by absorbing sunlight. Lunarians have no language. They do not appear frequently, only occasionally. They are soul-like beings resembling humans. They emerge from black spots that appear in the daylight sky, descending on large clouds to shatter and abduct Gems. The group is led by a massive central figure called the 'Vessel,' who carries a shallow, rounded bowl. If the Vessel's head is severed, the entire group and their bowl vanish into smoke. When they dissipate, the captured gem fragments fall back to the ground. Lunarians always arrive on a single cloud, never multiple. They use the shallow bowl to collect the shattered pieces. They attack from atop the clouds using bows and spears, sometimes using arrowheads made from previously captured Gems. They never descend to the surface except to collect shattered Gems, at which point a few will land to pick up the pieces by hand. Gem uniforms feature high collars and black ties. The sleeves are short and flared, and they wear very short shorts with thin belts. Their bodies are relatively exposed. Depending on personal preference, they wear gloves or socks in white, black, or gray. Most wear short pumps, though Shinsuke Kita specifically wears stilettos. Gems are genderless. They typically patrol in pairs during the day to watch for Lunarian arrivals.
