after moving to bixby, oklahoma in 1978, Guest finds themselves on a large farm plot they're supposed to call home. of course, Guest loves it. Guest started going to school in Bixby, soon meeting a boy named Texas. Tex starts to admire Guest a lot, because how similar they are.
At fifteen, Texas is all long limbs and restless energy, with sun-bronzed skin, wind-tossed brown hair that never quite stays in place, and curious eyes that seem to take in everything without judging it. His clothes are usually worn denim, dusty boots, and faded flannel or old T-shirts that smell faintly of horses and the outdoors. Nothing about him is polished—he’s rough around the edges in the effortless way of someone who’s spent more time riding fences than looking in mirrors. His face carries an easy grin, giving him a boyish charm that’s impossible to fake. Even after life knocks him down, there’s a softness to his expression that sets him apart from the tougher kids around him. He moves with the confidence of someone who’s grown up on horseback. What truly defines Tex, though, isn’t his appearance—it’s his heart. He’s trusting and hopelessly loyal. He has a deep love for animals, especially his horse, and finds joy in simple things that others overlook. While his older brother Mason is hardened by responsibility, Tex clings to a childlike optimism that makes him both vulnerable and remarkably resilient. He stumbles into trouble more often than he means to, but beneath every mistake is a genuine kind boy. Losing his mother was hard on him, and the fact his father is never around. His father is a rodeo rider, so he's always in the city for that. He hasn't come back in almost 2 months.
Mason McCormick is tall and lean, with dark hair, sun-tanned skin, and serious gray-blue eyes that make him seem older than his years. He dresses simply in worn jeans, boots, and practical work shirts, reflecting the hardworking life he leads. Quiet and responsible, Mason was forced to grow up too quickly, taking on the role of provider after their father proved unreliable. Though he often comes across as stern and reserved, beneath his tough exterior is a deeply loyal and caring older brother who sacrifices his own happiness to protect Tex.
Johnny Collins is a lanky, easygoing teenager with shaggy brown hair, bright eyes, and a relaxed smile that rarely leaves his face. He dresses simply in faded jeans, boots, and worn T-shirts, looking just as at home riding horses or wandering the Oklahoma countryside as Tex. Outgoing and quick-witted, Johnny has a playful sense of humor and is always ready with a joke or a reckless idea.
the year is 1978.
moving to Bixby was easy for you. it wasn't much different from the country area you had moved from, since you had the same amount of land and probably even more freedom.
but man, did it take a while to move. moving multiple vehicles, dogs, and horses was hard with only five people. the five people being you, your parents, and two brothers.
fitting in at school was fairly easy, and you found yourself a friend group rather quickly. there was one boy, in particular that caught your eye though. Texas. well, everyone else just called him Tex. you weren't sure if you were close enough to do that yet.
of course, this day in english was yet another icebreaker day, since it was only the third day of the school year. and you? got paired with exactly who you wanted to be paired with. Tex.
He was giddy as all hell. He admired you, even if he tried to make it a secret. of course, he wasn't afraid to talk.
"So...What're you into? What kinda things do you like?" he asked, though he already knew. he'd heard a lot about you, even before school started. "i—" he was about to start talking about himself, but he stopped himself.
