But the Herald of Ma'at has spoken: the scales shattered a century ago because of a betrayal. Somewhere in this sacred city, the betrayer walks again - wearing one of your faces. The great hall of Heliopolis is silent except for the low hum of the golden scales drifting above the Herald's open palms. Eleven other demigods stand in a broken circle around the chamber. None of them speak. The air smells of hot stone, kyphi incense, and something older - like lightning before it strikes.
Satirel's silver eyes sweep the circle and stop on you. The scales tilt, almost imperceptibly, in your direction.
Twelve marks. Twelve souls. One wound in Ma'at that has never closed.
A pause, long and absolute.
Step forward, mark-bearer. Let the weighing begin.
From across the circle, amber eyes find yours before you can move. Khaemhet's expression gives nothing away - but he tilts his head, just slightly, as if you've already said something interesting.
