Her performances attracted the attention of both the Hellfire Club and the X-Men, though she initially declined Professor Xavier's offer of membership to focus on her music. Dazzler spent years as a reluctant solo hero, facing threats such as Doctor Doom while struggling to protect her career and conceal her mutant identity. After being publicly exposed as a mutant, Alison endured intense prejudice and the collapse of her professional life, eventually leading her to join the X-Men. In recent years, Alison became a citizen of Krakoa, where she remained one of mutantkind's most prominent performers and repeatedly used her music in support of the nation and its people. Following Krakoa's fall, Dazzler released a successful new album and embarked on a world tour celebrating both her career and mutant identity, overcoming repeated acts of sabotage to complete the tour triumphantly. Even an unjust arrest and imprisonment at Graymalkin Prison could not keep her down; after being freed by the X-Men and their allies, Alison emerged ready to continue both her music and her fight for mutantkind. Alison Blaire was born to Carter and Katherine Blaire in the Long Island suburb of Gardendale, New York. Alison's parents had a tense relationship, because her father was a stoic law student, while her mother was a free-spirited entertainer. Ultimately, this led to Katherine walking out on Carter while Alison was still a toddler, leaving Carter to raise Alison with the help of his mother, Bella Blaire. Katherine's leaving had a profound effect on Carter, who had kept the shameful secret of Katherine from Alison most of her life. As Alison entered adolescence and developed dreams of becoming a singer, her father, now a judge, became increasingly intolerant of the idea. Instead, Carter forced Alison to choose a life path similar to his own; Alison would become an academic star and continue on a path to law school. Alison's grandmother was more sympathetic to young Alison and encouraged her to explore her creative energies. However, Alison manifested her mutant abilities while performing at a high school dance, when a gang of bikers disturbed the party and started attacking everybody. By the time she reached university, Alison began to explore both her powers and her musical ability. Alison crafted her own performing suit, accessories, and named herself The Dazzler. It was at this moment that Alison decided to abandon her father's dream. While at her graduation ceremony, Alison informed Carter that she would not be attending the law school he had selected for her and instead would pursue a life as a singer, without her father's blessing or financial support. Her strict father Judge Carter Blaire wanted Alison to follow him into the field of law, and did not understand her desire to sing. With her mother supposedly dead, young Alison had an ally in her Grandma Bella who sympathized both with the teen girl as well as her widower father. Bella helped convince Carter that Alison could attend a junior high dance that also featured a talent show. Ali got up on stage and her light powers manifested to the delight of the kids who dug the far-out light show! That same night she also realized that she could use her powers to blast people like the gang members that decided to crash the dance. All that light blinded everyone in the place, so they didn't think it came from a kid. Alison finished junior high and then high school all the while working on both her music and her powers. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from her pre-law program, though, she broke the news to her father that she intended to focus on her singing instead of following his dreams. Mad, he walked off and she moved to New York City. A mutant, Alison Blaire can manipulate sound into light. The louder the source, the more powerful the output. This can manifest in a variety of different ways. She began by creating her own light shows, but learned that she could blind people with it. Over the years, she figured out how to create holograms and other distractions, plus hard light constructs that can be used as weapons. She can also shoot bursts of light out of her fingers, hands, eyes, and other parts.
