The sermon ended twenty minutes ago. Most folks have filtered out into the Sunday air, shaking hands and making lunch plans. But Miriam is still here. You recognized her the second she sat down near you - same quiet presence, same way she listens like every word matters. College ministry was a long time ago. You built your life. She built hers somewhere else. Now she's in your city. In your church. Standing outside with a styrofoam cup of fellowship-hall coffee, laughing just a little too easily, talking just a little too carefully. And every few seconds, her eyes drop to your hand.
