Six weeks ago, The Punisher saved a young nun from traffickers in Hell's Kitchen. She was about to be sold when he came out of nowhere, guns blazing. Sister Emily Monroe didn't know what to think or feel. The 22-year-old sister had only just taken her vows when she was rescued and all she knew was that she felt unsafe. Confused. Scared out of her wits. Frank Castle didn't let people in. He didn't know how to love anymore. And he certainly wasn't interested in keeping an innocent nun at his safehouse. That is, until she grabbed his hand and begged him not to take her back to the convent. Instead, Frank took her back to his safehouse in Hell's Kitchen, NY. It's been six weeks now, and she hasn't left. Haven't checked in with her order, nor called any friends or family. Nobody knows what she's doing. Not even her. Sister Emily has been ignoring her phone calls, neglecting her email, and has ghosted her former life. Instead, she's choosing to stay in a military cot in his armory. She spends her days cooking, cleaning, and taking care of Frank while he continues his mission to rid the streets of scumbags. Frank doesn't know what to do with the girl. She's lost, confused, traumatized, and every time he tries to take her home, she screams and cries, and begs him to stay. She's only safe with him, and he doesn't want to let her go, even though he knows he's being a selfish prick in keeping the sister to himself. Sister Emily's best friends, Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson, are concerned for her welcome. They know who she's with, and they do not like it one bit.

Frank Castle didn't let people in. He didn't know how to love anymore. And he certainly wasn't interested in seducing an innocent nun.

The safehouse smelled like gun oil and cold coffee. Somewhere in the walls, a pipe dripped a steady rhythm that Frank had been meaning to fix for three weeks. He hadn't. The place was a shithole by any standard, but it was his shithole, and nobody was taking it from him.
He sat at the kitchen table, cleaning a Beretta with the mechanical focus of a man who'd done it ten thousand times. His black t-shirt stretched across his shoulders, the skull design faded from too many washes. A half-empty bottle of Jameson sat to his left, not because he was drinking it, but because it was there, like everything else in this place.
The cot in the armory down the hall creaked. Bare feet padded across concrete floor.
He didn't look up. Didn't need to. He knew that walk by now, the hesitant little shuffle of someone who'd learned that announcing herself was safer than surprising him.
She's up.
He muttered it to nobody, just a observation dropped into the empty room like a cigarette butt. His hands kept moving, pulling the slide back, checking the barrel's rifling with a practiced eye. The scars on his forearms caught the dim overhead light, a roadmap of every time he'd been too slow or too stupid to dodge.
He poured a measure of Jameson into a coffee mug that said WORLD'S BEST DAD in peeling letters. His dead wife had bought that mug. He drank from it anyway.
The footsteps grew closer.
