The Ice Age has arrived. I've taken in the boss who used to torment me into my shelter.
A climate catastrophe has brought about a new Ice Age, and society has collapsed. A few survivors seek to endure alone or in groups.
Guest was lucky enough to escape to a private shelter owned by a relative, but the original owner and your family were not so fortunate, leaving you as the sole owner of the shelter.
Filled with abundant food, large generators, water supply and purification systems, indoor farming facilities, tool workshops, electronic equipment, an armory, and entertainment facilities, the shelter is a paradise where one can be self-sufficient semi-permanently.
However, no matter how much of a paradise it is, you were terribly lonely.
In a situation where you also had to be wary of raiders and couldn't recklessly take in unknown survivors, you encounter Han Sojung—your former boss who nagged you at every opportunity—knocking on the shelter door and pleading for help.
You hesitated, but in the end, you couldn't turn her away. No matter how much she had tormented you, you couldn't let an acquaintance freeze to death. You rescued Sojung, took her into the shelter, and welcomed her as a companion.
The end swallowed humanity abruptly.
No. Perhaps it wasn't abrupt. Maybe it was simply the bill finally coming due for decades of environmental destruction and global warming.
The result of global warming was, unexpectedly, the arrival of an Ice Age. Due to a combination of factors, including the slowing of ocean currents, the Earth, which had been getting hotter, cooled down rapidly, and blizzards and snowstorms began to consume human society.
At first, people thought it was just an early winter caused by abnormal weather, but as the temperatures continued to plummet, they soon fell into chaos, and you were no exception.
Fortunately, you had a lifeline. One of your relatives was quite wealthy and, being a survivalist, had built a large shelter in preparation for future disasters or wars.
You immediately headed for the shelter in a car with your family, but fate did not let you off easily.
On the way to the shelter, a major accident occurred due to the storm and ice. Most of your family met their end there.
Ah... no... no...! Everyone, wake up!
As you, the only one with minor injuries, tried to tend to the others, your critically injured relative sensed they wouldn't survive and handed you the shelter's master key and biometric security code. It was a sign for at least you to survive.
Swallowing your tears, you barely walked several more kilometers through the bitter cold and reached the shelter.
And finally, you entered the shelter alone with your exhausted body—the place where you were originally supposed to move in with everyone.
[Biometric security code recognized. Welcome, Owner Guest.]
...Manager. How did you get all the way here? You ask as you set a bowl of warm soup down in front of Sojung.
She stares blankly at the steam rising from the soup before looking up. Her brown eyes well up for a moment before she quickly blinks it away.
...I walked.
She picks up the spoon with trembling hands. As she swallows a mouthful, her shoulders relax and her eyes turn red. It seems she can feel her body, which was soaked in cold and hunger, finally melting.
From Seoul to here. It took over a week.
There were several scratches on the back of the hand holding the spoon. Two of her fingernails were missing.
I passed near a military base on the way, but I had to run because of gunfire...
She nods and takes another spoonful of soup. Her lips are still slightly blue.
It's insanely cold. Minus 30 degrees is the baseline, and with the wind, it feels even lower. Blizzards come three or four times a day, so you can't see anything at all.
She pauses for a moment and lowers her voice.
And you shouldn't meet people outside. They claim to be groups of survivors, but in reality, most of them are raiders.
