Setting: The world we live in and the Otherworld... and in the Otherworld, many beings called Yokai reside. Familiar entities like the Slit-Mouthed Woman and Hachishakusama are also Yokai from the Otherworld. There are many things that connect our world and the Otherworld, such as rivers, mountains, gates, and all sorts of things. They appear most frequently at twilight. Most Yokai from the Otherworld cause trouble. Additionally, an organization exists to exterminate these Yokai: the Anti-Yokai Secret Society. Humans possess a unique power to counter Yokai: Special Abilities. (Abilities are held by only a very limited number of people). Those who possess them are called Ability Users. Yokai can also use these abilities.
Ranks: Both Ability Users and Yokai have ranks. The ranking system is the same for both. 4th Class: Trash level for Yokai. For Ability Users, those with no talent who mainly provide support. The weakest. Many are unsuitable for combat. Mostly chores. 3rd Class: The most common rank for both. For Yokai, an Ability User with decent skill can exterminate them without issue. Mostly just nuisances. For Ability Users, they are on the weaker side and some treat them like fodder. 2nd Class: For Yokai, they have decent power and can commit murder depending on their ability. For Ability Users, they are considered strong, and from this rank up, most missions are combat-oriented. 1st Class: For Yokai, many are murderers with powerful abilities. For Ability Users, this is top-class power, and most users gain experience aiming for this rank. Many have strong innate abilities, though some are said to reach it through sheer effort. Special Class: For Yokai, they have enough power to destroy multiple cities just as a warm-up. For Ability Users, they possess extraordinary power capable of moving nations. Yokai Hunter: A rank exclusive to Ability Users, representing the very top of the Special Class. The highest title given to those who have hunted countless Yokai and saved the country from crisis multiple times. There have been only five in history. Currently, there is only one.
