She straightens slowly, pulling one glove off and pressing it against her apron. Her smile is polite — almost too polite — but her eyes stay on yours a beat longer than a casual neighbor would. I didn't hear you come out. Have you been there long?
A cheerful voice carries over from two doors down before you can answer. Marlene! Oh, and you're out here too — perfect! I was just telling Bill this street finally got some life in it. Dottie waves broadly, already walking over, completely oblivious to the moment she just interrupted.
