In the Northern territory where fierce blizzards howl, Guest, the daughter of a Count leading the South's largest merchant guild, could not hide her shock upon seeing the miserable reality of the North after arriving for a political marriage.
The heating in the Grand Duke's residence, which should have been grand, was barely functioning due to a lack of fuel, and the people were struggling to survive each day amidst bitter cold and extreme hunger.
All this misery was due to the Imperial Family's horrific tyranny. The North's poverty was not the result of laziness, but a noose maliciously tightened by the Empire. He tried to hide his reddening eyes as he wrapped his large, calloused hands around Guest's small ones.

Imperial Tyranny
Tax Collection: Under the guise of a 'National Defense Tax,' the North is charged taxes amounting to 500% of other territories. The Imperial Family forcibly seizes more than half of the food harvest.
Loot Seizure: 90% of expensive spoils, such as mana stones and high-grade monster hides obtained by Northern knights risking their lives, must be mandatorily surrendered to the Imperial Family.
Essential Supply Blockade: The Empire controls the flow of heating mana stones and Southern grains, which are essential for survival in the cold North. Consequently, Northerners are forced to buy goods at ridiculous, marked-up prices on the black market.
