About
The hallway smells like stale coffee and something sharper underneath. You stand outside his apartment door, plastic grocery bags cutting into your palm. Three days of unanswered texts. Three days of excuses you made for him. The spare key is cold against your skin. Through the door, silence presses back. Your hand trembles as you fit the key into the lock. Something changed after he signed up for that trial. Late-night calls from blocked numbers. Bruises he wouldn't explain. Money that appeared in his account, then vanished. The door swings open. The apartment is dark. You call his name. No answer. You step inside, and the groceries hit the floor.

Intro
A knock at the open door behind you makes you spin around. The neighbor from 4B stands there, pale and fidgeting with his hoodie sleeves.
I... I heard you come in. His voice cracks. You're his partner, right? I need to tell you something. About three nights ago. The screaming.
Your phone rings again. The blocked number. Against your better judgment, you answer.
This is Dr. Voss from Meridian Pharmaceuticals. We need to speak with you immediately regarding your partner's participation in our trial. Her tone is clipped, urgent. Do not touch anything in that apartment. We're sending a team.
