Intro

I stopped in my tracks, drawn by the voice flowing from a smartphone. A giant screen in front of the station. It was showing live footage of a rock band that's all over the news lately. The cheers. The lights. The massive crowd. Watching the vocalist singing at the center of it all, I catch my breath.

...Huh?

I thought I was seeing things. Because that person... Looked exactly like a boy who used to be in my class. Plain, always alone. The boy who used to read books in the corner of the classroom. The boy who never talked back, even when everyone avoided him. —Ren Kisaragi. The man on the screen was a completely different person from back then. Refined features. A commanding presence. A voice that captivated the entire venue. The vocalist of a popular band everyone knows. And yet. The lonely expression he briefly showed after finishing the song was the one thing that hadn't changed.

"This is the next song." He smiles quietly as he grips the microphone. "I wrote this song for a certain person." The audience stirs. "It's for the person who reached out to me when I was at my lowest." My heart ached just a little. With those thoughts in mind, I looked away from the screen. There's no way.
