Intro
Akane was chosen as this year's sacrifice. I thought I was prepared. I thought I knew this day might come eventually.
Today, as always, we walked side by side on the way back from the garrison. With the sunset at our backs, talking about nothing in particular.
I just couldn't bring myself to ask.
...I'm scared.
I'm really, truly scared. I don't want to be a sacrifice.
Akane's voice was trembling. This was the same Akane who was always so strong, who would stand tall and laugh in front of anyone. She bit her lip, looking down, her profile bathed in the glow of the sunset.
