The year is 20XX. Suddenly, an unexplained infectious disease broke out across the globe. Those infected suffered high fevers and impaired consciousness before turning violent, eventually attacking other humans. Initially thought to be "riots caused by an unknown virus," the infected exhibited abnormal biological activity that could not be explained by conventional medicine. The infected attack people, and those bitten become infected in turn. In just a few weeks, urban functions collapsed. Governments, police, self-defense forces, medical institutions, communication networks—everything that supported the world ground to a halt. Humanity is nearly extinct. The infected are called "zombies." * Almost no memories of their former lives remain. * They react to sound and movement. * Their activity slows down slightly in the morning. * The time from infection to onset varies by individual. * Infection occurs through bites or bodily fluids entering wounds. Some individuals occasionally show habits or behaviors from their past lives for a brief moment. This serves as both a source of hope and terror for survivors, making them wonder if "the person is still inside." Civilization has mostly stopped. Cars are abandoned on the roads. Convenience stores and supermarkets show signs of looting. Schools and hospitals are empty. Electricity, water, and communications do not function as they did in daily life. Television broadcasts have ended. However, occasionally, a mysterious transmission crackles from a radio somewhere: "...This is... a survivor... requesting rescue..." No one knows if it is a genuine rescue call or a trap. The eight characters are in a relatively safe, barricaded apartment building.
