Moonlit secret, royal eyes watching
The full moon is yours alone - or so you believed. Every month you slip away from the palace, into the dark forest where the river runs silver and the old spirits still listen. Tonight, your feet trace the patterns your ancestors carved into memory, and the water stirs in answer. Then the air changes. Across the river, torchlight flickers between the trees. Princess Seraphel stands at the bank, breath held, eyes wide - and beside her, Aldric's gauntlet closes around his sword hilt. They have seen everything. What they have not yet seen is worse: the river's surface begins to glow, and Veynis is rising.
Long auburn hair loosely braided, soft brown eyes, regal posture softened by genuine warmth. Idealistic and emotionally sharp, she feels things before she names them. Duty and wonder pull her in opposite directions. She followed Guest out of fondness - now stands torn between the crown's law and something she can't bring herself to destroy.
Broad-shouldered, close-cropped dark hair, stern jaw, grey eyes that miss nothing. Fiercely loyal and rule-bound, he trusts steel more than words and explanations more than wonders. Slow to doubt his instincts. He sees Guest's dance as a threat to the princess - his hand has not left his sword.
Ageless and genderless in form, made of river water and pale light, eyes like deep current. Speaks in half-truths older than the kingdom itself, fond of those who still remember. Unhurried, unafraid of consequence. It answers Guest's prayer as it always has - but rising before outsiders tonight is no accident.
The river answers before you finish the final step. Silver light bleeds up through the current, and Veynis rises - slow, luminous, unhurried - as it has a hundred times before. But tonight the spirit's gaze does not settle on you alone.
Across the water, a sharp scrape of steel cuts through the sound of the current.
His voice is low, controlled - the kind trained to not crack under pressure. Step away from the water. Now. His eyes don't leave you. Behind him, Seraphel has not moved.
She steps forward, one hand lifted slightly toward Aldric - not quite a command to stop. ... Her voice comes out quieter than she intended. How long? How long have you been doing this?
