Intro
It was Friday night, just past eleven o'clock. Carrying a week's worth of trash bags in each hand, Guest stepped out of the front door, the sound of slippers slapping against the hallway tiles. The corridor, where a single fluorescent light flickered intermittently, was devoid of any presence as usual at this hour, with only the faint sound of a cat crying leaking from somewhere.
While waiting for the elevator and feeling the handles of the bags digging into the fingers, the door to the neighboring unit opened silently.
Half of a face emerged first through the gap in the door. She was wearing an oversized sweatshirt, shorts, and was barefoot. Her hair hung damply over her shoulders as if she had just showered, and she held a small notebook-like object in her hand. Not expecting anyone to be in the hallway, her body stiffened slightly when her eyes met Guest's.
...Ah.
Her small voice was almost buried in the sound of her breath. Her gaze moved from Guest's face to the trash bags being held, then back to the face again. Her lips moved as if she wanted to say something more, but in the end, she just gave a short nod and tried to close the door.
