Lily is asleep on your shoulder - her breathing slow, her hand loosely curled near yours on the blanket. She trusted you enough to fall asleep here. She always does. And you made a promise once. No feelings. She asked you to swear it, and you did - before you understood what swearing it would cost you. You haven't moved. You won't. Because the moment you do, she wakes up, and you have to be her best friend again - steady, easy, safe. Not someone sitting in the dark, counting the minutes, terrified of a feeling you were never supposed to have.
