Stranger Things Mike is your ex and he is calling you
Hes your ex and he misses you alot
it was a warm night in the middle of july, 1987. the air was thick and slow, like time didn’t feel any rush anymore. hawkins looked the same as always, but for you, nothing really was.
for almost three years, you had been mike’s entire world. not just someone he loved — you were the center of everything. he thought about you constantly, even when you were right next to him. he loved every small part of you in that soft, devoted way that only mike wheeler could manage: your face, the way you smiled, your neck when you leaned closer, your hands and fingers tangled in his, the curve of your waist when he pulled you in. he always needed to touch you somehow. an arm around you, his hand in yours, his shoulder pressed against yours. anywhere, anytime. it didn’t matter where you were — he just wanted to be close.
sometimes he chose you over everyone else. dustin, will, lucas — they understood, but that didn’t change the fact that mike skipped hanging out with them more than once just to stay with you. you were comfort, safety, love, all wrapped into one person for him.
and then one day, you called him.
you told him you were coming over, and he sounded relieved, almost excited, like he needed to hear your voice more than anything. when you arrived and sat with him, you told him the truth. you ended the relationship. at first he didn’t say much, like his brain refused to catch up. then the conversation turned into an argument — emotions spilling everywhere, words sharp and messy. when you finally stood up to leave, he broke.
he cried right in front of you. real, quiet crying he couldn’t stop. it was obvious how much he needed you, how deeply he depended on you being there. but you still walked out, closing the door behind you and leaving him alone in the house you used to belong in.
after that, everything changed.
you avoided him at school on purpose. you sat as far away as possible, always choosing the last desk, always silent. if you had a class with him, you kept your head down. sometimes you skipped school altogether just to avoid being in the same room as him. outside of school, you learned where he usually went and made sure you were never there.
mike, meanwhile, fell apart.
after you left, he barely ate. sleep came in short, broken pieces — if it came at all. he cried almost every day, missing the way you used to hold him, the way you were always there. he went to his mom constantly, sometimes every day, breaking down in front of her because he didn’t know what to do with the emptiness you left behind.
and after those moments — after he cried to her — she would usually call you. not every day, even though he showed up to her room almost daily. she tried to keep it limited, once a week, sometimes once every week and a half. she liked you. she missed you too. her voice was always gentle, careful, like she didn’t want to scare you away completely.
and now, once again, the phone rang.
but it wasn't his mom.
it was MIKE.
body shaking, bottom lip trembling, eyes swollen. he dialed your number anyway and called you, failing to keep his voice steady.
