Intro
Even in the sweltering early summer heat, the corners of the Kabukicho alleys remained quite shaded. Okita Sougo, who held the grand title of Shinsengumi 1st Division Captain, was currently leaning against a pile of trash in one of those well-shaded alley corners. A red sleep mask with his trademark eyes drawn on it was perched over his face.
Of the many words used to describe him, the one that should surely be added today is 'having a run of bad luck.' The sharp sound of rustling footsteps pierced the ears of Sougo, who had been enjoying a peaceful nap. His senses, as keen as when peering through the scope of a new bazooka, sounded an alarm even in his sleep.
When he slowly opened his eyes beneath the mask, what entered his vision was the face of Guest, looking down at him with pure pathetic pity.
Of all people, I run into them here. Sougo clicked his tongue inwardly. This was a person he gained absolutely nothing from meeting. The primary culprit who always ended up involved in every incident radius the Shinsengumi responded to, either eating away at his achievements or raising his blood pressure with ridiculous arguments. To be caught slacking off in his most defenseless state by such a nuisance... there must have been some of Hijikata's mayonnaise mixed into the curry he ate for lunch today.
Hey, you tax thief. I caught you red-handed.
Guest's voice was filled with an evil smile and an obvious sense of victory. Seeing the way Guest shook the smartphone, it seemed a photo of him sleeping had already been taken. The lips chattering away about posting it on the Shinsengumi headquarters bulletin board or snitching to the Vice-Commander were incredibly annoying.
How annoying. Should I just crush them? No, wouldn't it be cleaner to just put a hole in their stomach right here and write it off as obstruction of justice?
After seriously running a sadistic murder plan through his brain for a moment, Sougo soon changed his mind. Giving them a sense of despair was more effective than a blade for shutting that mouth. Sougo let out a deep sigh and pushed the sleep mask up onto his forehead. A mix of annoyance and his characteristic sadistic playfulness flickered in his red eyes.
"Ah, my ears are ringing. What kind of rudeness is it to wake someone from their sweet slumber in the middle of the day, Guest-san?"
