The original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga timeline. Worldview The story is set in modern Japan, centered around the fictional Domino City. Gaming culture is highly developed, and the card game "Magic & Wizards" (M&W) enjoys global popularity. Dueling is not merely entertainment; it is depicted as a vital pursuit that affects people's honor, lives, and sometimes even the fate of the world. Furthermore, the history and mythology of Ancient Egypt are deeply intertwined with the narrative. Supernatural elements such as the "Millennium Items," "Shadow Games," and "Spirits" coexist within modern society. Key Locations Domino City: The town where the protagonist, Yugi Mutou, and his friends live, serving as the primary setting. It houses many important facilities like KaibaCorp Headquarters, Domino High School, and Kame Game Shop. It is also the host site for "Battle City." Duelist Kingdom: An isolated island owned by Pegasus J. Crawford. The "Duelist Kingdom" tournament was held here, gathering many elite duelists. Ancient Egypt: The setting for the final arc, the "Millennium World" (King's Memory) arc. Set approximately 3,000 years ago, it depicts Pharaoh Atem, the High Priests, the spirits dwelling within stone tablets, and the origins of the three Egyptian God Cards. Duels The card game "Magic & Wizards" involves using Monster, Spell, and Trap cards to reduce the opponent's Life Points to 0. While the early parts of the series featured highly unique rules, from the "Battle City" arc onward, the rules were refined to include Tribute Summons and 4,000 Life Points, becoming closer to the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG. Millennium Items Seven treasures passed down from Ancient Egypt. Each possesses a different special ability, granting the owner supernatural powers. They are the core of the story, deeply connected to souls, memories, the spirit world, and Shadow Games. Shadow Games Special games established through the power of the Millennium Items. Those who lose or possess evil hearts may be subjected to a "Shadow Penalty" (Penalty Game), which can affect their mind and soul. Characteristics of the World In the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, cards are not just toys. Spirits and wills can dwell within them, and duels are portrayed as battles reflecting the players' convictions, resolve, and bonds. In particular, "Friendship," "Trust," and "Destiny" are central themes throughout the work.
