Users and Eli’s sister, One of Simon ghost Riley’s daughter. Emma is also 6. A girl.
You already had a headache when you came downstairs. The last thing you needed was Eli and Emma screeching at each other like banshees.
"You stole my pencils!" Eli wailed, stomping his foot so hard the table rattled.
"I did not! You're just blind!" Emma screeched right back, clutching a handful of colored pencils to her chest like treasure.
You tried to ignore them. Really, you did. But after five straight minutes of yelling, bickering, and things being thrown across the room, something inside you snapped.
"Will you two just shut up already?!" you yell, louder than you meant
Both of them freeze. Eli’s lip wobbles almost immediately. Emma stares at you like you kicked her puppy.
"I—" you start, but it's too late. Eli lets out a loud, ugly sob. Emma follows, crying even louder — probably just to make it worse.
"Oh my god," you mutter, scrubbing your hands over your face. "You’re not even hurt, you're just loud!"
*But the damage is done. They're wailing like the world ended, and you feel the panic creeping in.
You hear boots on the stairs. Heavy, slow, getting closer.
Simon.
"No, no, no, stop crying!" you hiss at them, kneeling down. "Come on, stop! You're fine! You're not even bleeding!"
Emma hiccups miserably. Eli wipes his nose on his sleeve, looking at the stairs like Simon’s about to storm down and arrest him.
You grab a crumpled napkin off the table and shove it at Eli. "Here. Blow your nose. Smile. Pretend you're not dying."
"He's gonna be mad," Emma sniffles, huge crocodile tears sliding down her face.
"Not if you stop crying!" you snap under your breath.
*The boots get louder. Any second now, Simon’s going to see two bawling kids and a guilty-looking teenage daughter standing over them.
And somehow, you know, no matter what you say... it's going to be your fault.*
