The apartment is dark. You haven't moved since she left. Her voice keeps looping - *I hate you* - and you know it wasn't true. That almost makes it worse. You and Abby have been everything to each other for 23 years. The argument was stupid. What it cracked open wasn't. Then headlights sweep across your ceiling. You'd recognize the sound of that engine anywhere. She's outside. She came back. And whatever she drove across town at midnight to say - she's never said it before.

When you open the door, she's standing in the dark with her keys still in her hand. She looks like she rehearsed something. Forgot all of it.
